Cruz didn’t know where Mila escaped to in that beautiful head of hers, but she had a habit of getting lost in her thoughts. The pullback when she closed in on herself wasn’t noticeable physically. He couldn’t explain how he knew when she’d left the moment, but he wanted to get her back to this...to them.

Securing her body against his, Cruz held on to her backside and came to his feet. He began to move from the entertainment room toward the hallway.

“You have a habit of wanting to carry me.” She laughed, looping her arms around his neck. “I’m not complaining, though.”

“I want you in my bed.”

My life.

No. That wasn’t right. Where the hell did that thought come from? Mila wasn’t the one for him. She couldn’t be. When the right woman stepped into his world, he’d know it. She would instantly fit and have the same goals and ideals that he did. They’d vibe on every level and come together like a perfect union.

There was no denying the remarkable woman Mila was, so he would enjoy her company for as long as she remained in town. He traveled for work, she traveled for work...hell, she didn’t even have a home yet. Besides, she’d made it clear she didn’t want a relationship. Likely, because of the pain she’d dealt with from her father. Cruz hated the bastard and didn’t even know his name.

“You’re territorial,” she murmured, her warm breath tickling his neck.

“You bet your sweet ass I am.” He moved through the foyer and down the hallway leading to his suite. “As much as a quickie on the chair in the movie room sounds fun, I’d rather take my time. You deserve nothing less.”

She lifted her head to look in his eyes. “How do you know what I deserve?”

“Because you’re amazing and I want to give you everything.”

Careful. That teetered too close to exposing feelings he couldn’t have for her, much less admit. She did deserve everything, that hadn’t been a lie, but at the same time, they weren’t meant to be together for the long-term. He’d give all he could while they lasted, and that’s all he could do.

“You thought I was a diva.” She smirked. “And you’re still trying to pamper me.”

“You are a diva,” he agreed. “But I’m starting to see there’s much more to the woman beneath the makeup and hair spray.”

“Don’t look too close,” she warned. “You might not like what you find.”

Oh, he didn’t know about that. He had a feeling he’d be even more intrigued and attracted. With each passing moment, Cruz learned more, and she didn’t even have to tell him everything. But he would get the full story. Later.

“There’s nothing I’ve found yet that I don’t like,” he countered.

He eased her body down his and set her on her feet. Without another word, he slowly started removing the rest of her clothing. She rested her delicate hands on his shoulders as he bent down to take off her shoes and remove her pants and panties.
